NAKLAS President Explains Why UNILORIN Law Faculty Remains a Leading Force in Legal Education

The President of the National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS), Mr. Abdullbasit O. AbdulRauf, has attributed the outstanding reputation of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), to the quality of academic training and mentorship students receive within the institution.

AbdulRauf made this known during a working visit to the Directorate of Corporate Affairs of the University of Ilorin on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

According to him, the Faculty’s consistent record of excellence in legal education and professional practice continues to distinguish it from many of its counterparts across the country. He cited the recent Nigerian Law School Bar examinations, where 16 graduates of the Faculty earned First Class honours, as further evidence of the institution’s academic strength and commitment to excellence.

The NAKLAS President noted that the impressive performances of UNILORIN Law graduates in various spheres of legal practice have continued to reinforce the Faculty’s standing as one of the foremost centres of legal education in Nigeria.

AbdulRauf, who was accompanied by the Association’s National General Secretary, Mr. Abdulhafeez Sidiq, and former National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abdulsamad Imam, stated that interactions and academic comparisons with students from other universities have consistently highlighted the superior quality of instruction and training available at the Faculty.

He further observed that even students at the early stages of their legal education in UNILORIN often demonstrate academic competence comparable to that of senior students in some other institutions, reflecting the Faculty’s strong educational foundation.

The student leader also commended the intellectual contributions of students of the Faculty to the Association’s recent publication, “The Bar, The Bench and The Crown,” a book dedicated to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR. He said the quality of the articles submitted by the students underscores the Faculty’s culture of excellence and scholarly development.

AbdulRauf expressed appreciation to the University management under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for continuously improving infrastructure and creating an enabling environment for learning. Having visited several institutions across the country, he maintained that the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, remains among the best-equipped and most conducive learning environments for legal education.

He also lauded the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Bashir Omipidan, and members of the academic staff for their dedication to grooming students into competent legal professionals capable of excelling both at the Bar and on the Bench.

The remarks reaffirm the growing recognition of the University of Ilorin Faculty of Law as a leading institution committed to producing highly skilled, ethically grounded, and globally competitive legal practitioners.
