The ancient city of Ilorin is set to witness a historic milestone today as Sheikh Muhammad Basheer Jum’ah Dasuki is officially turbaned as the 13th Chief Imam of the Ilorin Emirate.
The historic ceremony, scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m., will be conducted under the leadership of His Royal Highness, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The turbaning ceremony is expected to attract thousands of Muslim faithful, eminent Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, government officials, political leaders, captains of industry, members of the diplomatic community, and distinguished guests from across Nigeria and beyond.
The official installation marks a significant chapter in the religious history of the Ilorin Emirate as Sheikh Muhammad Basheer Jum’ah Dasuki formally assumes the spiritual leadership of one of Nigeria’s most respected Islamic communities. His appointment follows the passing of the late Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Bashir Imam Soliu, OON, whose legacy of scholarship, piety, and service remains deeply cherished.
Widely recognised for its rich Islamic heritage and tradition of scholarship, the Ilorin Emirate has for generations served as a beacon of religious learning, peaceful coexistence, and moral leadership. The turbaning of a new Chief Imam is therefore regarded as one of the Emirate’s most significant religious and cultural events.
Security agencies and event organisers have concluded arrangements to ensure a peaceful and successful ceremony, while residents and visitors are expected to converge on Ilorin to witness the historic occasion.
